Recently, we traveled to Orlando, Florida to visit Universal Studios Orlando. It was “The Nag’s” 7th birthday request and I was all too happy to oblige! Taking a trip for a birthday is WAY cheaper (and less stressful) than throwing a party for 10-20 kids and their parents, all the while having to be the “hostess with the most-est.”
We travel between Miami and Orlando at least two times a year…the route is down pat and so is our routine. So when my little guy decided to invite close family friends with us, we had to scramble to find a car that would be able to handle 4 adults, 4 kids (one in a wheelchair), and all of the luggage and items we usually take on our trips. Now, my minivan (yuck) is big and comfortable, but we really needed space to maneuver all that we had.
Enter the 2014 Chevy Suburban.
Oh yeah, we were riding “Tony Soprano” style….
I have to admit, when the awesome guys at Prestige Motors dropped off the stunningly beautiful White Diamond Tricoat Suburban, I was a bit intimidated. Sitting next to my minivan in the driveway, it was ENORMOUS! I was honestly scared that I would barrel over drivers on the street and have to make 100-point turns in order to fit in a parking space.
When I got behind the wheel, I started singing “The Wheels on the Bus.” (Yeah, it’s just that big.) After about 5 minutes, I was an old pro. The Suburban drove so smoothly and it became second nature to me.
Now, I’m not going to pretend that I know anything about cars. Really, what I know and the value of a penny are close to nothing. So I can tell you that it has Vortec™ 5.3L V8 with 320 horsepower and 335 lb.-ft. of torque, but I have NO CLUE what that means except that it’s powerful.
What I DO know, is that it has comfort, space, and technology to the gills! Here’s what it has (that I understand):
- Seating for up to 9 passengers (depending on the model)
- Enormous trunk space
- Bluetooth wireless technology
- Bose surround sound
- Sirius XM capability
- OnStar Directions & Connections
- Rear park assist (yeah, I needed this because of the size)
- Power-remote lift gate (on the LTZ)
We all fit comfortably without being in each other’s space. The trunk was so large that there was actually room for more. If we had had the 3rd row down, it would be the size of my husband’s pick up truck.
Not only did we ride to Orlando in comfort, we rode in STYLE! I can honestly say, I didn’t want to give the Suburban up! Even my husband fell in love and he’s a truck guy…
