Being the “exhausted” parents that we are between work, school, schedules and sports, we are always on the look out for quick ways to get away from it all. Living in Miami, this is relatively easy for us. We can quickly head in any direction and get to a beach. Even a quick trip to the Keys is a vacation.
Another lucky reason to live in Miami is that we are surrounded by water and cruise ships are in the port 24/7. That’s why our most recent getaway was the WEEKEND CRUISE.
Here are our reasons why a Weekend Cruise = A Perfect Quick Getaway
*Happy, smiling faces all around!
Any vacation is a happy occasion…that’s why it’s called a vacation. But even with the ship still docked in Miami and our phones still connected, if felt like we were MILES away from life. And that is just happiness! (Note the Piña Collada in hand…)
*The fun begins as soon as you get on board!
We didn’t even get our bags yet, and we were already by the pool with everyone else! This particular cruise was the Norwegian Sky. If you’ve never been on a Norwegian cruise before, here’s the skinny: They have what they like to call “Freestyle Cruising.” What that means is there are no set times for dining and you don’t have a set schedule. Not to mention for the 2016 sailing dates, the Norwegian Sky is offering all you can drink! So the party really did start right away!
Even “Little Ricky” was relaxed…he was partying like a rock star from the moment we stepped aboard!
*The scenery is AMAZING!
If you like the ocean at all, then you MUST go on a cruise. You are surrounded by the calming waters, sounds of the waves and the impeccable sunrises and sunsets. That alone is enough to relax you.
*You’re treated like royalty.
If you’ve ever wondered how the “other half” live, then take a cruise. You really are treated like royalty. Whatever you want, you can get (within reason…like, don’t ask for the Hope Diamond or anything…). All of the employees of the ship are so friendly and are there to make you happy. It really is a nice to be treated well…
*RELAX, RELAX, RELAX
You can rest or be active as much as you choose. The thing is, there’s something for everyone on board. The adventurer, the foodie, the shopper, or the lazy one! It’s your vacation, do as you please!
*Seeing new places
Being so close to the Bahamas, we’ve been many times, but for some the islands are a new thing. With the weekend cruise, you are able to hop off the ship, explore the ports of call for as long as you like, and then hop back on. Not to mention you get to visit different places and only have to unpack once!
*Your food is included.
This really makes a difference with a vacation. You could book a hotel somewhere and get some amazing discount, but once you step foot in the many restaurants that you have to eat at all weekend, your money goes out the window! On a cruise, your food is included. There are special restaurants that have an additional charge, but it’s really minimal. For example, we were 4 couples and went to the sushi restaurant on board. We ate like pigs and only spent $30/couple. In Miami, that would cost us closer to $300/couple!
*Did I mention the drinks?
If you know anything about me, then you know I enjoy a good cocktail or glass of wine. As I mentioned before, the Norwegian Sky has “all you can drink” for the sailings in 2016. From a Bloody Mary in the morning, Mojitos in the afternoon, bottles of wine with dinner, and coffee with Bailey’s Irish Cream (a tip from my friend Ruth at Living Well, Spending Less), the cocktails were a’flowin’! Cruise ships have cocktails of the day and special non-alcoholic versions for those who do not like to drink.
*A night-time buddy waiting for you.
Ok, so this isn’t really a reason to take a weekend cruise, but c’mon…how cute is he?
Now are you ready to go on your first weekend cruise?
**Disclaimer: I was not compensated for this post, nor was I given a free trip. My family planned this weekend getaway with a group of friends. I’m just sharing it with you because I love traveling & I love my readers!**
