So the other night, after a very HOT yoga class, some local bloggers worked up an appetite. We went to dinner at this cozy little restaurant, d.b.a/cafe located in the Union Planters Plaza in Ft. Lauderdale. My first thought? My kind of place!
I loved the charm of the ambiance. It had a casual, “everybody knows your name” kind of feel. I could totally picture myself there on date night with the hubby, beers with couples, or a fun girls night out.
And the food….my goodness, the FOOD! If I hadn’t just sat down after a workout, I would have eaten all night long!
We had a healthy, family styled mediterranean themed dinner. Wow. Just wow. The grilled chicken was spiced perfectly…mine never comes out like that! The flat bread and hummus was outrageous…I practically licked the bowl! We also ate a fabulous orzo pasta dish, sauteed veggies, falafels and a wonderful salad.
The menu is eclectic and ever changing and so is the beverage menu. There are plenty of micro-brews on tap to satisfy any beer drinker’s taste. Instead of just a wine pairing for your meal, d.b.a./cafe offers a “beer tasting menu.” (clever!)
You want dessert? YES, PLEASE!
d.b.a./cafe is owned by Tom Moynihan, a former teacher with a love for the restaurant biz. (How can you not love a place run by a former teacher??) His playful humor is prevalent throughout the establishment. Come on, it’s located next to a yoga studio and has a sign that reads: “Downward Dog Goes Better With Hair of the Dog.” HILARIOUS!
Executive chef Steve Zobel uses his classical training to bring delicious food to a more casual clientele. He is able to mix his French flare with a more homestyle feel.
If you are ever in the Ft. Lauderdale area, I highly recommend d.b.a./cafe! They were voted New Times Best New Restaurant Broward County 2012.
