I love shoes. I REALLY LOVE shoes.
My husband doesn’t understand that shoes are the most important part of the outfit. He doesn’t understand why I need so many sandals, heels, wedges, flats, sneakers, and boots (even though I live in Miami).
When we moved into a new house this past summer, we also moved into a small closet. We’ve always shared a closet, but I used to have custom shelves that housed the
many COUNTLESS pairs of shoes that I possess. Of course my fancier and more expensive shoes remained snug in their individual plastic bins at the bottom of my closet. My flats and sandals were homeless. It was a real SHOE DILEMMA.
After the move, these most used shoes remained in the moving box. The box was so big that I would move it from one side of the closet to the other in order to hang my jeans up. It was so annoying to constantly have this giant cardboard box in front of all of my clothes.
I toyed with the idea of creating sandal hangers. I almost bought a special flip flop holder for $16 ( I would need at least 4). I even almost purchased a $100 ottoman designed to hold shoes.
Then I had the idea to put buckets from my past classroom which were originally purchased at The Dollar Store to good use. These beverage buckets were merely taking up space in my garage, why not put them to work. Two birds.
I wanted to the shoes to be out of the way, but also easily accessible since my flats and sandals are the shoes I wear the most. They may not match the other baskets in my closet, but I really don’t think my husband would have been on board with buying more baskets while perfectly good bins were going unused in the garage.
Here is what I came up with:
What do you think?
I may need to go buy more buckets soon…
