Keeping my house organized in a house full of boys is almost like turning water into wine. It’s nearly impossible. I train the “men” in my life to put things where they belong, but somehow no one listens…I can’t quite understand why. Oh right, because they are males.
I like to think that I’m an organized person. I’m not a fanatic or anything, but everything in my kitchen has a place and I internally get mad when those items are out of place. Therefore, I’m probably internally mad about 80% of the time when my husband and kids are in the kitchen. Don’t worry, that doesn’t deter me from letting them in though!
I WANT a more organized kitchen. I’m going to have a more organized kitchen.
I’ve put together a roundup of clever kitchen organization tips from my “friends” on the internet.
Athletic Bottle Container Storage:
Having boys (and a husband), we have a ton of athletic bottles for all of our sports activities. Right now I just have them in a cabinet above the refrigerator, but I would love to have them more organized. Better Homes and Gardens has this great idea using wine bottle storage items to keep those pesky plastic bottles together.
Under the sink organization:
The space under my sink is my nemesis. We keep our trash can under there so our dog Max doesn’t get to the trash, so half of our space is gone. I have a basket for the cleaning supplies, but it still gets so cluttered.
I like the simplicity of this organized space for under the sink from Time with Thea. Not to mention I know I could get a lot of these storage items at the dollar store.
The slide out drawer shown here from Clean & Scentsible is perfect to reach the items in the back so you don’t forget about them. Not to mention the storage for the dishwasher tabs is ingenious!
Organizing the freezer:
My freezer is a disaster. First off, I do not like that it’s tall like my refrigerator. Just not an ideal space for freezer items. Foods get piled on top of each other and older foods get “lost” under the newer items.
Organizing with a Side of Fabulous has the great idea of using binder clips to hang some foods from the shelves. LOVE it!
My countertops get a bit cluttered. It’s life. I don’t live in a magazine. I have some items that stay next to my stove since I use them every day and I don’t really have a place to put them. My knife block, the salt, pepper, olive oil and balsamic vinegar are in arms reach for cooking. I love these ideas from Decoist for keeping a tray or basket under these items to make them appear more tidy.
Plastic Lid Storage:
I think plastic storage containers are the best thing since sliced bread. I’ve always been obsessed with containers…even before I had a kitchen of my own. Right now my plastic containers are taking over the cabinet. I keep my lids separated by square and round in plastic bags. I need a new solution.
Organized and Inspire has a great idea to use old CD racks to separate the lids. After all, they aren’t holding CDs anymore…
Solutions for the Refrigerator:
And then there’s the refrigerator. Probably the most used appliance in my whole kitchen. That poor sucker gets opened and closed at least a million times a day.
Like I said before, I like when everything has a place. This Refrigerator Storage Chart from Home Storage Solutions 101 is perfect for my “semi” Type-A personality.
And check out this perfectly neat fridge from Decorating Your Small Space. I know it’s not reality, but a girl can dream, right? I’m loving the shelf paper on the shelves for easy cleaning though…and it makes your fridge light and sunny!
Now I have to get started on re-organizing my kitchen!
