I am a huge lover of books. When I was in middle school, my BFF and I would walk from school to the public library. We would quickly finish our homework and then sit down between the shelves of books and find our newest treasure.
There’s something about the smell of the paper and bindings that take me back. And the sound of the plastic book jackets as they crinkled when you opened them. We would get so excited when we found a book that had never been read on the shelf. We would sit there and read until our moms came to get us after work.
I still love reading and try and sneak in 30 mins here and there with a good book. Sometimes it’s when my kids have to sit and read for school, when I wait for them in the pick up line, when they are at baseball practice…anywhere I can sneak it in.
Here are some Books I’m Reading:
The Year We Turned Forty

I don’t know if I read the synopsis of this book, or I just liked the title since I turned 40 this year, but it wasn’t what I was expecting. This book is about 3 friends who all have birthdays around the same time and have been celebrating their special days together for many years. It begins on their 40th birthday and how their lives have all turned in directions they didn’t think they would. Then you skip ahead to their 50th birthday in Vegas. Through the work of magic, they get to go back a decade and fix their lives after their 40th birthdays. It wasn’t what I was expecting, but I still like the book. It’s an easy read and a nice story for anyone who has ever wondered “what if.”
Where’d You Go, Bernadette
I picked up this book in the airport about a year ago and hadn’t had the chance to read it until recently. This is a story about a girl who has a very brilliant and eccentric mother, Bernadette, who disappears. The funny adventures that take place with the PTA moms and the family are what help to build the character of Bernadette. Throughout the book, you learn alongside the girl who Bernadette really was and why she disappeared. I really enjoyed this one. I found myself laughing out loud and really wanting more with each page.
Me Before You

When I saw this book was going to become a movie, I had to read it first. Yes, I’m THAT person…I want to read a book and then torture myself when I see that the movie is nothing like it. This is such a beautiful story of a quirky girl who becomes the caretaker of a quadriplegic and the love story that ensues. I really enjoyed this book and laughed and cried. Of course, the movie was nothing like the book. I can’t wait to read After You the second part to this story.
Eligible

I adore Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen! I’ve seen every version of the movie
, including how Bridget Jones’s Diary
is a sort of spin-off. This wonderful tale of a smart girl being torn between two suitors, one of which is standoff-ish, is so beautiful! Eligible
is a modern retelling of the Austen classic. I loved this book and how they brought the same tale into modern day with our technology, society and issues. This was a great read and I recommend it HIGHLY!
I am looking to dive back into reading. I think The Year We Turned Forty would be perfect!
It is definitely not what I was expecting, but it’s a nice story.
Great suggestions, I love reading, always will!
I LOVE reading! Wish I could do it all day!
These sound great! I need a good book!
I have Me Before You ready to send you…can send you the others too if you want! 😉
I loved Where’d You Go, Bernadette and Me Before You. Several girlfriends and I went to see the film a couple of weeks ago, and I was glad that it really did the book justice. Enjoy it!
Was a bit disappointed by the movie of Me Before You. Was really hoping for more… but then again, I’m usually disappointed by movies made from books.
I read non-fiction mostly, histories, biographies, etc. But sometimes I pick up a novel. I am trying to go through some older classic novels lately. I am deep into ‘War and Peace’ if you can believe it. It’s actually more social and gossipy in a way than I would have thought. Interesting look into Russian aristocracy, that is for sure.
I can honestly say that I’ve never read War & Peace. Would maybe like to one day. Do you have any non-fiction books that you recommend? I do like historical fiction.
Yay! I am always looking for book recommendations!
Let me know which ones you read!
I’ve been putting off reading Me Before You, but I’ll have finally dive in. I’m currently reading Big Magic.
What’s that about Amiyrah?
