Back to school is a time of renewal. A time for fresh starts.
When it comes to shopping for back to school time, most people think about everything for the kids. Backpacks, pencils, pens, notebooks, paper, crayons. I could really go on and on.
What about mom?
Moms need a fresh start this time of year too. After a full summer of shorts, tees, flip flops, sunglasses and if you’re lucky, swimsuits, it’s time to look sharp for the beginning of the school year.
From walking the kids to their first day of school, PTA meetings, teacher conferences or the obligatory family nights, moms need to put their best self forward. That’s why I don’t hesitate to pick up a few items for myself during our back to school shopping trips.
Must Have Back to School Wear for Moms:
Jeans
A great pair of jeans goes a long way. Once you find a pair that really flatters your figure, I say get a couple pairs! Jeans are easy to dress up or down for any school event.
Simple Tops
I’m a HUGE fan of a top that it simple. I’m not saying always wear a plain t-shirt, that look gets boring fast. Get a flowy top in a plain color. You can change your look with your accessories so it’s not so obvious that you are wear your same favorite top.
Dresses
A dress with a clean line that can easily go from summer to fall is something that really helps a mom out! I love having a few plain dresses in my closet that I can add a belt to, put a sweater over or change it up with a great necklace. Although I honestly don’t care what the other moms think of me, I also don’t want to look like a “one hit wonder.”

Yes, momma needs something new too!
Sunglasses
A great pair of frames are a MUST in your wardrobe! Not only do they protect your eyes from the blaring sun, but they are a great way to accent an outfit! Check out these Nicole Miller Studio sunglasses from JcPenney. This cat eye shaped sun wear features a unique two tone color and is accented with a Tortoise temple. (They’re on sale right now through Sept. 9) They’ll be perfect for the fun runs, carnival days and fall festivals at school!
Comfy Shoes
A comfy pair of shoes can really effect your attitude! Whether your idea of comfort is a pair of sneakers, flats or heels, make sure you take care of your feet. When volunteering at school, I chose flats because I’m usually going from one end of the school to the other or standing for long periods of time. Choose wisely!

These are my FAVORITE shoes!
To be honest, I really am fine as long as I have my essentials: phone, keys, and sunglasses! They make everything ok.
Need a new pair of sunglasses? Check out the Labor Day Sale at JcPenney Optical! 60% off 1 pair (offer through 9/9)

They are honestly my FAVORITE pair of shoes! You can tell by the foot prints inside…
I love the idea of back to school shopping for mamas. I’ve never thought of that but it’s so true that we need outfits for meetings and events at the school so why not get ourselves a few cute pieces?
Right? Why do the kids get all the fun during back to school?
You are so right that I don’t care what other moms think but versatility and comfort is key! And I love those sunglasses on you! I’m an oversized black frame kind of person but could branch out! I’ll have to take a look next time I’m at my JCP!
Thanks Leticia! I love experimenting with my sunglasses.
So cute! I love denim and a neutral tee for everyday wear.
Big sunglasses are my best friend during school drop off!
