My BFFL Beth grew up in a Southern home in the northern part of Florida. (Don’t try to make sense of it…just go with it.) Her aunt would hold an annual cookie bake where family & friends would gather to her home to bake and decorate sugar cookies for Christmas. When Beth moved to Miami, she wanted to keep that tradition alive with her little family and the kids that she knew. Thus, The Annual Cookie Bake was born.
This past year was the 11th year that I was in attendance at this fun event. (I’ve been going since I was pregnant with “Little Ricky.”) It really wouldn’t be December without it.
Beth makes tons of dough for sugar cookies and vats of special frosting that she won’t share the recipe for. The tables get set up in her backyard (it’s Miami after all) with tablecloths, waxed paper, rolling pins, cookie cutters, and a special flour & sugar mixture. There are plenty of cookie sheets and parent helpers around to make sure the little hands continue to roll and cut.
Once the cookies are all baked to perfection and cooled, they are brought back out to the kiddos for decorating fun. With frosting, plastic knives, and plenty of sprinkles, the kids enjoy bringing their cookies “to life”…and maybe licking some fingers too. The finished products are placed in waxed paper lined shirt boxes and ready to head home to enjoy!
This year was a little harder for Beth, so I stepped in and helped with the shopping. I headed to my local Target to pick up some items that she needed.
First up, LOTS of flour & sugar!
The cookies wouldn’t be cute without these babies!!
And with so many kids wanting to cut cookies at the same time, you can never have too many cookie cutters! (Don’t you just love the price?)
A little something special for the Mommies! (Don’t judge….there will be a lot of screaming children & chaos everywhere!)
Here are some of the cookies that the kids made. Keep in mind I said KIDS……not pieces of artwork, but they were still yummy!
My shopping was even easier with a gift card for Target right on my phone!
Target seriously has EVERYTHING you could possibly need for ANYTHING! I won’t admit that I also found myself in the women’s clothing, shoes, and housewares aisles…well, at least I won’t admit it to my husband!
